Joseph Scammell
The Joseph H. Scammell was a Canadian cargo ship built in Eatonville, Nova Scotia in 1884. The ship was wrecked near Point Danger, Torquay, Victoria, Australia in 1891. The wreck resulted in largescale looting of its cargo valued at 60,000 pounds at that time. All 22 souls aboard, including the captain and his wife and daughter reached shore safely. The painting is by artist Philip J. Gray.
