As a town, Queenscliff retains much of its historic 19th century charm and atmosphere. It has many historically and architecturally significant buildings, particularly hotels, which made it a popular seaside resort in the 1880s when coastal steamers regularly plied the waters of Port Phillip Bay from Melbourne.
