Sturt's Desert Pea, Central Australia
Sturts Desert Pea (Swainsona Formosa) is named after the early Australian explorer, Charles Sturt. It is a beautiful outback, native flower and the state floral emblem for South Australia. This photograph was taken in Alice Springs.
Despite its arid landscape, nearly 600 plant species can be found in the central Australian region. After rains, a proliferation of wildflowers add colour and brilliance to the desert landscape.
