Palm Valley, Central Australia
Palm Valley is within Finke Gorge National Park some 140 kilometres southwest of Alice Springs in central Australia. Palm Valley, as it is named, is a surprising desert oasis and has some 3,000 Red Cabbage palms (Livistona mariae) growing. The palms may be remnants of a prehistoric time when the area was a subtropical rainforest but where enough water still accumulates to support the palms and other plant and animal life.
